Why is Digital Inclusion
Important!

Digital inclusion is crucial as it ensures everyone has access to the internet and digital literacy, fostering economic opportunity, education, healthcare access, and social and civic engagement, thereby bridging the digital divide and promoting equitable participation in society.

Couple support

UK adults have never used the internet or last used it over three months ago.

This equates to people nationally.

Do not possess the essential digital skills required for day-to-day activities.

In Gloucestershire specifically, efforts to improve digital inclusion are spearheaded by various local organizations and projects. The Digital Hubs project, for example, provides free, accessible, and tailored support to individuals across all six districts of Gloucestershire. Each district has a dedicated community partner that helps residents overcome barriers to digital access, from motivation and confidence to skills and internet connectivity (Gloucestershire Digital Hubs).

Furthermore, the Citizens Online initiative highlights the significant need for digital skills, noting that access to the internet can greatly enhance quality of life, offering benefits such as reduced loneliness and better access to services (Citizens Online).

These efforts are crucial as the digital divide continues to present challenges in areas like employment, social inclusion, and access to essential services. The goal is to ensure that everyone, regardless of their background or circumstances, can benefit from the opportunities offered by digital technologies (Office for National Statistics) (Inclusion Gloucestershire).
